What may be inferred by an "out of place" fossil?
gayaneshka [121]

Answer:

The species was most likely not found in its natural environment and died because of its inability to adapt to the new environment. Animal species have specific characteristics in their behavior and physical appearance that makes them thrive in a particular climate. Polar bears have white fur, thick coats, and a large structure to support themselves and effectively hunt in the Arctic. When placed in a jungle environment, for example, these characteristics are not useful, and would be a burden to them. This is why when a prehistoric animal if found in a different place, it is because it wandered there (out of need or out of confusion) and couldn't adapt.
