The Meat Inspection Act of 1906 put an end to meat companies using chemicals to try to preserve meat.
Prior to this act, the companies to were using chemicals like boric acid and formaldehyde to try to keep meat from rotting. These chemicals were making people sick, and in some cases, killing them.
A sociologist would likely call this phenomenon as
environmental racism. The environmental racism involves of having to point out
injustice with mixed racial context in the environment. It could be seen from
Josh’s actions and behavior as he views the environment differently and that he
wants to move but he couldn't and he probably thinks that he is living in a
place like that solely because he is from a poor part of the town.
It is called deindividuation. It is a concept of social psychology and it shows the loss of self-awareness. Deindividuation theory tries to analyze antinormative collective behavior, such as violent crowds, lynch mobs etc. There is a model called SIDE (<span>social identity model of deindividuation effects), which provides an alternative explanation for the deindividuation. The model suggests that anonymity has a profound effect on a group behavior. </span>
