When we are partitioning in division, we are dividing the number into its place values, and then applying the divisor to each of the values.

For example in the first problem, we have 642, which is also 600 + 40 + 2.

That means we'll have three division problems.

600 ÷ 2 = 300

40 ÷ 2 = 20

2 ÷ 2 = 1

Which means that 642 ÷ 2 = 300 + 20 + 1, or 321.

You can apply this format to the other two problems to find their answers.

If you do, you should get that 969 ÷ 3 = 323, and 844 ÷ 4 = 211.

Hope this helps!

What can you say about the end behavior of the function f(x)=-4x^6+6x^2-52
shepuryov [24]

Answer:

As x gets smaller, pointing to negative infinity, the value of f decreses, pointing to negative infinity.

As x gets increases, pointing to positve infinity, the value of f decreses, pointing to negative infinity.

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the end behaviour of a function f(x), we calculate these following limits:

\lim_{x \to +\infty} f(x)

And

\lim_{x \to -\infty} f(x)

In this question:

f(x) = -4x^{6} + 6x^{2} - 52

At negative infinity:

\lim_{x \to -\infty} f(x) = \lim_{x \to -\infty} -4x^{6} + 6x^{2} - 52

When the variable points to infinity, we only consider the term with the highest exponent. So

\lim_{x \to -\infty} -4x^{6} + 6x^{2} - 52 = \lim_{x \to -\infty} -4x^{6} = -4*(-\infty)^{6} = -(\infty) = -\infty

So as x gets smaller, pointing to negative infinity, the value of f decreses, pointing to negative infinity.

Positive infinity:

\lim_{x \to \infty} f(x) = \lim_{x \to \infty} -4x^{6} + 6x^{2} - 52 = \lim_{x \to \infty} -4x^{6} = -4*(\infty)^{6} = -(\infty) = -\infty

So as x gets increases, pointing to positve infinity, the value of f decreses, pointing to negative infinity.

A force of 18 lb is required to hold a spring stretched 8 in. beyond its natural length. How much work W is done in stretching i
Wittaler [7]

Answer: 18.75 lb.ft

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Force required to stretch spring 8 in. is 18 lb

it can be written

\Rightarrow F=kx\\\Rightarrow 18=k(8)\\\\\Rightarrow k=\dfrac{18}{8}=\dfrac{9}{2}\ lb/in.

Work done in stretching from its natural length to 10 in.

\Rightarrow W=\dfrac{1}{2}kx^2\\\\\Rightarrow W=0.5\times \dfrac{9}{2}\times (10)^2\\\\\Rightarrow W=225\ lb.in.\ or\\\Rightarrow W=18.75\ lb.ft

(-4,5) and (4,0) find the distance between each pair of points
aleksklad [387]

Answer:

9.4339 units

Step-by-step explanation:

Here we are given with two coordinates and asked to determine the distance between them.

Here we are going to use the distance formula, which is given as under

D=\sqrt{(y_2-y_1)^2+(x_2-x_1)^2}

Where

(x_1,y_1) = (-4,5)

(x_2,y_2) = (4,0)

Replacing these values in the distance formula

D =\sqrt{(-4-4))^2+(5-0)^2}

D =\sqrt{(-8)^2+(5)^2}

D =\sqrt{64+25}

D =\sqrt{89}

D= 9.4339

Hence the distance is 9.4339 units
