Matt gets paid at home for doing extra chores. Last week, he did 6 loads of laundry and 1
emmasim [6.3K]

Matt earns $4 and $3 for 1 load of laundry and 1 load of dishes respectively

<u>Solution:</u>

Given, Matt gets paid at home for doing extra chores.

We have to find How much does Matt earn for completing each type of chore?

Let the amount for 1 load of laundry be m and amount for 1 load of dish be n.

Now, last week, he did 6 loads of laundry and 1 load of dishes, and his parents paid him $27.

Then, 6 \times amount for 1 load of laundry + 1 \times amount for 1 load of dish = 27

\rightarrow 6 \mathrm{m}+\mathrm{n}=27 \rightarrow(1)

The week before, he finished 1 load of laundry and 9 loads of dishes, earning a total of $31

Then, 1 \times amount for 1 load of laundry + 9 \times amount for 1 load of laundry = 31  ⇒m + 9n = 31 ⇒ (2)

Now let us solve equations (1) and (2)

0 – 53n = - 159

-53n  = -159

53n = 159

n = 3

Now, substitute n value in (1) ⇒ 6m + 3 = 27 ⇒ 6m = 24 ⇒ m = 4

Hence, matt earns $4 and $3 for 1 load of laundry and 1 load of dishes respectively.

A line has a slope of –5 and a y-intercept of (0, 3). What is the equation of the line that is perpendicular to the first line a
neonofarm [45]
Slope-intercept form:
y=mx+b
m=slope
b=y-intercept

Data of the first line:
m=-5
b=y-intercept=3  (y-intercept=it is the value of "y" when x=0)

y=-5x+3

A line perpendicular to the line y=mx+b will have the following slope:
m`=-1/m

Therefore: the line perpendicular to the line y=-5x+3 will have the following slope:
m´=-1/(-5)=1/5

Point-slope form of a line: we need a point (x₀,y₀) and the slope (m):
y-y₀=m(x-x₀)

We know, the slope (m=1/5) and we have a point (3,2) therefore:
y-y₀=m(x-x₀)
y-2=1/5(x-3)     (point-slope form)
y-2=(1/5)x-3/5
y=(1/5)x-3/5+2
y=(1/5)x+7/5    (slope-intercept form)

Answer: the line perpendicular to the first line will be: y=(1/5)x+7/5

Sam is handing out advertisements for an upcoming event. He starts with a box of 5,000 advertisements and hands out 12 advertise
lawyer [7]

Answer:

n = 5,000 - 12t

Step-by-step explanation:

Sam is handing out advertisements for an upcoming event.

No of advertisements = 5000

No of advertisements per minute is 12.

We need to find the equation that best models the relationship between the amount of time t, Sam spends handing out advertisements and the number of advertisements, n, remaining.

5000 is fixed and there are 12 advertisements per minute. Let the equation is given by :

n = 5,000 - 12t

Hence, the correct option is (d).

Stacy uses a spinner with six equal sections numbered 2, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 to play a game. Write a probability model for this ex
allsm [11]

Answer:

We estimate to have 8.33 times the number 6 in 50 trials.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us consider a success to get a 6. In this case, note that the probability of having a 6 in one spin is 1/6. We can consider the number of 6's in 50 spins to be a binomial random variable. Then, let X to be the number of trials we get a 6 out of 50 trials. Then, we have the following model.

P(X=k) = \binom{50}{k}(\frac{1}{6})^k(\frac{5}{6})^{50-k}

We will estimate the number of times that she spins a 6 as the expected value of this random variable.

Recall that if we have X as a binomial random variable of n trials with a probability of success of p, then it's expected value is np.

Then , in this case, with n=50 and p=1/6 we expect to have \frac{50}{6} number of times of having a 6, which is 8.33.
