The mitochondria are defective and do not produce sufficient protein to synthesize microtubules in the cilia and flagella. The plasma membrane of the alveoli is not permeable to carbon dioxide during respiration because it is too hydrophobic. The cells do not produce functional motor proteins in flagella and cilia.
Cellular respiration is the process of conversion of food energy (glucose) into chemical energy (ATP). Oxygen and glucose are the reactants in the chemical reaction of this process and carbon dioxide and water are the products.
