Total number of rose and holly bushes that I had initially = 20

System of linear equations

Let the initial number of rose bushes be r

Let the initial number of holly bushes be h

I had 3 times as many rose bushes as holly bushes in my garden

r = 3h......................(1)

After moving seven of my rose bushes to my grandfather’s garden, the remaining number of rose bushes = r - 7

After planting 11 new holly bushes in my garden, the new number of holly bushes = h + 11

Now my garden has half as many rose bushes as holly bushes

r - 7 = 0.5(h + 11)

r = 0.5h + 5.5 + 7

r = 0.5h + 12.5...............(2)

Compare equations (1) and (2)

3h = 0.5h + 12.5

3h - 0.5h = 12.5

2.5h = 12.5

h = 12.5/2.5

h = 5

Substitute h = 5 into equation (1)

r = 3h

r = 3(5)

r = 15

Total number of rose and holly bushes that I had initially = h + r

Total number of rose and holly bushes that I had initially = 5 + 15

Total number of rose and holly bushes that I had initially = 20

 1. You would calculate this answer with the Pythagorean theorem. The formula is a² + b² = c², which basically means that the sum of two sides squared would equal the side that is missing.
 2. Currently, we are given 6.5 for side 1. The angle measurments we are given is 45º and 90º [the right angle], which means that if we subtract the sum of 45 and 90 from 180 [the total degree amount of every triangle] we can get the missing angle. With the missing angle, we can calculate the length of the second side.
 3. 45º + 90º = 135º. 180º - 135º = 45º.
 4. Now that we have the angles of all three sides [45º, 90º, 45º] we can find the second length of the triangle. The fact that two angles are the same [45º] means that the length is also the same.
 5. Thus proving that M is also 6.5 in length, we can square 6.5 and add both sides to each other once squared.
 6. 6.5² = 42.25.
 7. 42.25 + 42.25 = 84.5.
 8. The square root of 84.5 is 9.19, or 9.2 rounded.

Sally spelled 2 words incorrectly out of 20 spelling words on the test. What percent grade did Sally get on the test?
Tom [10]

Answer:

90%

Step-by-step explanation:

So Sally gets 18/20 of the questions correct then you need to make the denominator of the fraction to 100 which makes a percent. So you multiply both the numerator and denominator by 5:

90/100

which is equal to 90%

Hope this helps!
