The climates of Central America are essentially tropical, tempered by proximity to the sea, by elevation, by latitude, and by local topography; in consequence, they may vary substantially over short distances. The Caribbean climate is tropical, moderated to a certain extent by the prevailing north-east trade winds.
Central America's climate is characterized by a wet and dry season. The wet season runs from November to May. The Caribbean islands enjoy a hot, tropical climate all year round with average highs of about 28°C (82°F).
