This is an example of inductive reasoning. Inductive reasoning happens when you make broad generalizations from specific observations. In this example, it suggests that since they can see the islands (observation), they must be on the highway (generalization). Inductive reasoning might not always be as accurate in some cases as deductive reasoning.

The answer is inductive reasoning.

Further Explanation

The reasoning is a thought process that departs from sensory observation (empirical observation) which results in several concepts and understandings. Based on similar observations, similar propositions will be formed, based on several propositions that are known or considered true, one concludes a new proposition that was previously unknown. This process is called reasoning. In reasoning, propositions that form the basis of inference are called premises (antecedents) and the results of conclusions are called conclusions (consequence). The relation between premise and conclusion is called a consequence.

Method of reasoning

There are two types of methods in reasoning, namely inductive and deductive.

 1. Deductive reasoning is reasoning that applies general things first to be connected in specific parts. Deductive reasoning (top-down logic) contrasts with inductive reasoning (bottom-up logic) and generally begins with one or more general statements or premises to reach logical conclusions. If the premise is true, the conclusion must be true. Deductive retrieval is used by scientists and mathematicians to prove their hypotheses.
 2. Inductive reasoning is reasoning that begins by explaining specific problems (containing proof and examples of facts) that end with conclusions in the form of general statements. Inductive reasoning is reasoning from a particular case or case and obtaining general rules. This contradicts the scientific method. This makes generalizations by observing patterns and drawing conclusions that might be wrong.
