An antibiotic is a medicine, which is used to treat the infections caused by the bacteria. The antibiotics kill the bacteria generally by rupturing heir cell membrane or destroying their genetic materials, so that they cannot reproduce.
The structure of the bacteria and the viruses are completely different. Due to the difference in the structures of the bacteria and viruses, the antibiotics cannot work on viruses. So, the antibiotics are ineffective to cure the viral infections.
The body protects its self by pathogens is antibody. They are kind like a Marker protein because they cling on to the pathogen and kind of saying like "hey kill this one it's over here".
