Scale drawings are used to show an actual image using lesser dimensions.

The width of the actual gym is 72 feet

The scale is given as:

Scale = 5\ inches : 8\ feet

Represent the width of the actual gym with w, so, we have the following equivalent ratio

45\ inches : w = 5\ inches : 8\ feet

Cancel out the common units

45: w = 5: 8\ feet

Express as fraction

\frac{45}{w} = \frac{5}{8\ feet}

Cross multiply

5w = 45 \times 8\ feet

Divide both sides by 5

w = 9\times 8\ feet

w = 72\ feet

Hence, the width of the actual gym is 72 feet

I don't really know on this one. I'm thinking it's because if T kept going it would go into a 3rd quadrant but I'm not too sure.
enyata [817]
That is correct since the line in T is not straight it would eventually hit the third quadrant

Why would you use the measurement 8 feet 4 inches instead of 7 feet 16 inches?.
lidiya [134]

8 feet 4 inches is more precise and easier to use.

It would be weird to say 7 feet 16 inches, because there's 12 inches in a foot and your already using that measurement.

Hope this is helpful:)
