meiosis produces 4 daughter cells from a single parent cell, the daughter cells are haploid because they contain half the amount of chromosomes as the parent cell, the cells produced through meiosis are not identical like mitosis, they are genetically diverse (which is what causes certain traits to be carried on from one parent cell and other from the other parent cell)
