One night, Winterbourne goes for a stroll through the Colosseum and sees a youthful couple sitting at its middle. He understands that they are Giovanelli and Daisy.

Winterbourne, enraged with Giovanelli, asks him how he could set out to assume Daisy to a position where she risks getting "Roman Fever". Daisy says she couldn't care less and Winterbourne abandons them. Daisy becomes sick and dies on a couple of days after.
