A population will have a high number of people who are carriers of the

sickle-cell trait due to the high prevalence of malaria.

Malaria is a disease which is spread by the vector known as Mosquito when

humans are bitten. Malaria is deadly and is effectively treated with the use of

 artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT).

There has been evolutionary adaptation by humans on how to fight

malaria.The presence of the sickle cell trait has been linked to making more

resistant to malaria. This is why we have more sickle cell carriers in areas

with high malaria prevalence such as Africa than those with low prevalence.
