The given simplification is not correct. This one is:

\displaystyle \frac25 (x + 3) x^{5/2} - 2 (x+3) x^{3/2} = \frac25 (x+3) x^{3/2} \bigg(x^{2/2} - 5\bigg) = \frac25 (x+3) x^{3/2} (x - 5)

which is just a matter of recognizing 2(x+3)x^{3/2} as a common factor to both expressions in the sum.

A washer and a dryer cost $772 combined. The washer cost $72 more than the dryer. What is the cost of the dryer
melamori03 [73]
Dryer cost represented by x
Then, the washer costs (x + $72)
Together, they cost (x) + (x+72) = $772
2x+72 = 772
[subtract 97 from both sides]
x = 350
[divide both sides by 2]

The dryer cost $350

The washer cost $422.

Together, they cost $772

Find the area of the triangle defined by the coordinates (7, 1), (0, 10), and (9, 4). (To the nearest tenth)
slega [8]

Answer:

  C)  19.5 square units

Step-by-step explanation:

The area from coordinates can be computed as ...

  A = (1/2)|x1(y2 -y3) +x2(y3 -y1) +x3(y1 -y2)|

  = (1/2)|7(10 -4) +0(4 -1) +9(1-10)| = (1/2)|7·6 +9·(-9)|

  = (1/2)|-39| = 39/2 = 19.5

The area of the triangle is 19.5 square units.
