Ben participated in a race. During the first half of the race, he walked 3 miles and ran at a rate of 5 miles per hour for x hou

rs. During the second half of the race, he walked for 2 miles and ran at a rate of 5.5 miles per hour for x hours. What equation could you write to solve for the number of hours Ben ran during each half of the race? Let y represent the number of miles in half the race. Write two equations, one for the first half of the race and one for the second half. How could you transform these two equations to be the same as the original equation you wrote to solve for x? What do you think this means about solving for the variables in a situation represented by two equations?

Answer:

y = 5x + 3

y = 5.5x + 2

0.5x = 1

x = 2

y = 13

anyways what I think this means for the variables is x is equal to x in the second equation and y is equal to y in the second equation

Y = 5x + 3
y = 5.5x + 2
0.5x = 1
x = 2
y = 13

Andreas plays soccer video game he earns three stars for every goal he scores and loses 3/4 stars every time he misses the goal
lakkis [162]

Answer: 12 stars

Step-by-step explanation:

First find out the number of stars he gained by scoring goals:

= Number of goals scored * Stars if goal is scored

= 5 * 3

= 15 stars

Then find out the number of stars he is to lose by missing the goal:

= No. of goals missed * stars if goal missed

= 4 * 3/4 stars

= 3 stars

The total number of stars he has are:

= Stars gained - Stars lost

= 15 - 3

= 12 stars

Chord \displaystyle \overline{AB} AB is 12 inches from center \displaystyle OO. If the radius has a length of \displaystyle 1515
Leokris [45]

Answer:

18 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

r = 15in --- radius

h = 12in --- distance between chord and the center of the circle

Required

The chord length

See attachment for illustration

First, calculate distance AX using Pythagoras theorem.

AO^2 = AX^2 + OX^2

This gives:

15^2 = AX^2 + 12^2

225 = AX^2 + 144

Collect like terms

AX^2 = 225 - 144

AX^2 = 81

Take square roots of both sides

AX = 9

AB is then calculated as:

AB= AX + XB

Where:

AX=XB =9

So:

AB = 9 + 9

AB = 18
