The concept of keystone species is controversial among ecologists because most organisms are highly interdependent. If each of t

he trophic levels is dependent on all the others, how can we say one is most important? Choose an ecosystem with which you are familiar and decide whether it has a keystone species or keystone set.

In the savanna, in general, there isn't a plant keystone species; however, grasses can be considered a keystone set. These species (grasses) help to maintain the productivity and resilience of the entire ecosystem.

Savana is a type of ecosystem known as tropical grassland, which is characterized by grasses as the dominant vegetation.

Moreover, a keystone species is a species that enables defining an entire ecosystem, thereby its absence would negatively affect such ecosystem.

In the case of Savana, there isn't a specific plant keystone species; but grasses represent a keystone set as they help to maintain the productivity and resilience of the entire ecosystem.

Forest is a type of ecosystem that has keystone species.

Forest is a type of ecosystem that has keystone species such as loin, tiger and jaguar etc which controls the population of herbivores. Without these organisms the ecosystem will be destroyed because these animals control the population of herbivorous organisms in that ecosystem.

If the population of herbivorous organisms can't be controlled, they eat all the vegetation and the ecosystem will be destroyed so we can say that keystone species are very important for the survival of ecosystem.

How are characteristics that suit a species for survival transmitted from one generation to the next?
Bess [88]

The characteristics that suit a species for survival are transmitted from one generation to the next through genes which are the units of hereditary information.

What is a Gene?

This is referred to as the basic functional unit of heredity and is composed of DNA which are passed from the parent to the offspring.

This is done through the process which is known as meiosis in which four unique daughter cells are produced.

This is therefore how characteristics that suit a species for survival are transmitted from one generation to the next through the gene and is the most appropriate choice.
