How Non-Polar Molecule disolves in Non-Polar Molecule?
sergeinik [125]

=)

Explanation:

Nonpolar compounds do not dissolve in water. The attractive forces that operate between the particles in a nonpolar compound are weak dispersion forces. However, the nonpolar molecules are more attracted to themselves than they are to the polar water molecules.

Energy in Devices. An engineer needs to design a device that transforms light energy into sound energy. Describe a design for a
N76 [4]

Answer:

built a special cavity where the electromagnetic quantum states resonate with the natural vibrations of the atoms. In doing so, one cancouple a photon-based oscillator to a mechanical oscillator, controlling the mechanical quantum states with visible light. The result is a prototype of a quantum transducer, a device that converts light energy into mechanical energy (sound energy)

Explanation:

Sound energy is created by vibrating particles of medium that propagates as a wave. So in order to convert light (electromagnetic wave) to sound wave it has to be converted into electric or magnetic signals. Then these signals can be converted into sound waves.

However, if you consider the particle nature of light. It contains momentum and after collision sets the other particles into oscillatory motion but the wavelength of these vibrations is too high to be considered as sound waves.

A chemist dissolves 240mg of pure barium hydroxide in enough water to make up of solution. Calculate the pH of the solution. (Th
goblinko [34]

Answer:

pH = 12.22

Explanation:

... To make up 170mL of solution... The temperature is 25°C...

The dissolution of Barium Hydroxide, Ba(OH)₂ occurs as follows:

Ba(OH)₂ ⇄ Ba²⁺(aq) + 2OH⁻(aq)

Where 1 mole of barium hydroxide produce 2 moles of hydroxide ion.

To solve this question we need to convert mass of the hydroxide to moles with its molar mass. Twice these moles are moles of hydroxide ion (Based on the chemical equation). With moles of OH⁻ and the volume we can find [OH⁻] and [H⁺] using Kw. As pH = -log[H⁺], we can solve this problem:

Moles Ba(OH)₂ molar mass: 171.34g/mol

0.240g * (1mol / 171.34g) = 1.4x10⁻³ moles * 2 =

2.80x10⁻³ moles of OH⁻

Molarity [OH⁻] and [H⁺]

2.80x10⁻³ moles of OH⁻ / 0.170L = 0.01648M

As Kw at 25°C is 1x10⁻¹⁴:

Kw = 1x10⁻¹⁴ = [OH⁻] [H⁺]

[H⁺] = Kw / [OH⁻] = 1x10⁻¹⁴/0.01648M = 6.068x10⁻¹³M

pH:

pH = -log [H⁺]

pH = -log [6.068x10⁻¹³M]

pH = 12.22

Think about your morning from when you wake up until you arrive at school. Describe the forms of energy you encounter or use dur
denis-greek [22]

Answer:

When sleeping the energy exhibited is Potential energy. When I wake up and I’m preparing for the day I use kinetic energy which is the energy exhibited during motion.

Eating before leaving the house means I used chemical energy for replenishment of nutrients to aid the performance of more activities for the day. The food eaten and the physical activities also give rise to thermal energy which is why we sweat.

Which statement describes heterogeneous mixtures?
Artemon [7]
The righ answer is the option A. They are made up of two or more pure substances that are not chemically bonded. A classicall expample ot heterogeneous mixtures are sugar and salt. Sugar is a pure substance, salt is also a pure substance, when you mixe them you form mixture where salt is still salt and sugar is still sugar, that is what "they are not chemically bonded" means. So you can separate them by physical media.
