Discussion Question: Consider the loop electrode excision procedure (LEEP) and laparoscopy. Why are these procedures coming into
Rzqust [24]

First let’s define loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) and laparoscopic surgery. LEEP is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses a metal loop that is heated using electricity. The heat from the loop will remove cells and tissue and cauterize blood vessels to mediate bleeding. LEEP is mainly used in treating lesions involving the female genital tract (polyps, warts, etc.). On the other hand, laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that involves inserting surgical tools through trocars in the patient’s abdomen through small incisions (usually 4 incisions, one of which will involve a camera inserted to visualize the insides).

These procedures become more widely accepted today as (1) they are minimally invasive meaning there is less tissue trauma for the patient, (2) they offer faster recovery times, and (3) the patient may go home earlier than traditional surgical procedures.
