Generally, our body contains 2 types of cells according to number of chromosomes :

1- Somatic cells : - almost all body cells are somatic cells

- contain 46 chromosomes (diploid)

2- Germ cells : - only sperms in male & Eggs in female, are germ cells

- they contain 23 chromosomes (haploid)

- they are supposed to unite together (Egg & sperm) to form a diploid cell (23+23=46) ...that will eventually grow into a baby.
