The strategy of "containment" is best known as a Cold War foreign policy of the United States and its allies to prevent the spread of communism after the end of World War II.

The definition of cold war is hostility between areas, states or nations without physical fighting. An example of a cold war was the relationship between the USA and the USSR after World War II.
