What is an Understatement?

An understatement is a speech that has little import compared to the real meaning. This means that the author does not fully convey the gravity of the words.

In sentence C, the content of the picture was hard to bear but this was not fully highlighted by the speaker's choice of words.

Move the plot:

Flat characters—minor figures that play a supporting role in the story—are used to move the plot along, providing subtle exposition. Such characters do not undergo substantial change or growth in the course of a story. They are also known as "two-dimensional characters" or "static characters."

Select all that apply. Language is which of the following?
kupik [55]

Language is a system of signs represrnting ideas to convey a message. Those symbols, which are words can be arbitrary, ambiguous, abstract representations of other phenomena. Words are not intrinsically connected to what they represent. Meanings of words can shift over time. The arbitrary character allows us to invent new words.

Language is ruled guided, simply put, verbal communication is guided by unspoken but broadly understood rules.

So I would say that option A, C and D are correct.

Meanwhile, I think that option B is incorrect since a mean of communication is understood as the tool and technology employed in order to convey a message, exchange information, ideas.
