Were medieval manors nearly self sufficient
lina2011 [118]
This mostly depended on the fertility of the soil nearby the manor, the amount of serfs a lord had and the trade that he had set up with other manors. The reason for this is that if a manor had fertile soil, the lord had set up ample trade between manors, and therewere enough serfs to work on the land, they were pretty much self-suficient. However, if these things were lacking, then self-sufficiency was not necessarily achieved.

In terms of mercantilism, what is protectionism?
OlgaM077 [116]
The correct answer to your question would be D - A trade policy that encourages exports while discouraging imports, mainly through tariffs.

The reason why this is the answer is because protectionism in its essence tries to restrain, limit and make trade less prominent between two nations by doing exactly that; encouraging exports and discouraging imports. This can be done in many ways. The idea behind this is that this serves and protects the interest of one nation (the protectionist one) and "evens out" the trading playing field.
