The goal of the Great Leap Forward program was to change Chinese society from an agrarian economy (one based on producing crops and maintaining farmland) to one that revolves around industrialization. Along with this, the agricultural production of China would be of a more collective mindset, meaning everyone would pull their resources together and then the Chinese government would use these resources accordingly. Even though this was supposed to help Chinese society, it actually lead to a famine in China.
