Research paper is a document or thesis written by the PhD holders and Doctorates in any specialization.

It is drafted after very keen research and analysis on a particular topic from various sources and also helps the students to enhance their knowledge.

Citing of source

A research paper contains the topic and the facts of the research and the conclusion.

When any facts or evidence relevant and supporting to the topic of the paper is inserted then the source from where the facts and evidence are obtained have to be disclosed and cited in the paper.

Therefore, you need to cite a source while writing a research paper "When you use a direct quote from the source" and OPTION B is correct.
