The topic I pick is FAS( fetal alcohol syndrome). The main reason I would pick this is because of how much this affects unborn fetuses/babies and mother. You are probably wondering what exactly is FAS. FAS or fetal alcohol syndrome is just as bad as it sounds. It is when a mother does various things such smoke, drink alcohol, uses drugs etc. during pregnancy. This could lead to various problems and deformations. The child could have behavioral problems and learning disabilities. But that’s not the extreme case. In extreme cases the child could have face deformities such as closed or thin eyelids, elongated or very small heads, extra toes or fingers, and missing limbs or organs. During pregnancy if the mother is drinking she could have a miscarriage because what she is ingesting the fetus is receiving through the placenta, thus the fetus wouldn’t survive because it has a weaker immune system than that of the mother. In my point I’m saying that we should completely make it illegal or ban pregnant women smoking, drinking alcohol, or doing anything that would affect the fetus in a bad way.
( All of my research is from Wikipedia and other websites. Also from my high school science teacher Ms. Welch)

Why was the constitutionality of President Lincoln’s suspension of habeas corpus brought into question?
melamori03 [73]

Answer:

Due to imprisonment of citizens without a trial.

Explanation:

April 27, 1861 President Lincoln issued an order which proclaimed that the writ of Habeas Corpus will be suspended on grounds of public safety because of the ongoing Civil War. President Lincoln vetoed this order and also imposed Martial Law all over the country.

The constitutionality of Lincoln's order was questioned when secessionist John Merryman was arrested and denied from being released under the Habeas Corpus writ. In support of Merryman's appeal, Chief Justice Roger B. Taney also questioned Lincoln's authority to deny the citizens the right to the writ of Habeas Corpus.

In a nutshell, it can be understood that President Lincoln used his authority decisively without taking Congressional consideration on the issue of Habeas Corpus.
