Various conspiracy theories claim that US government officials were aware of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor before it happened on December 7, 1941. Since the Japanese attack, there has been disagreement about why and how the US was caught off guard, as well as how much and when American officials knew about the Japanese attack preparations.
