Christianity, Individualism and the growing secularism
Christianity took an important role during renaissence. During this time, it took the form of Christian Humanism in the sense that in the European Middle Ages there was a strong tendency to despise human affairs. It means that People were more focused on God and in the afterlife. However, in the Renaissence people started to reject those ideas and started to focus on culture and the human development in this life. This is called secularism. We have to remember that there was the beginning of the protestant reform with Martin Luther in Germany and Henry VIII who was a strong character in the Reform movement. He was the most absolute monarch of that time. Because the Catholic Church didn't give him the anullment of his marriage with Catherine of Aragon, he appointed himself the supreme head of the Church of England and took many properties of the Catholic church. The picture "The moneylender and his wife" painted by Quentin Matsys depicts very much this time. There is a woman in this picture with a Bible and there is a man weighing jewels and pieces of gold. We could say that the woman represents the Christian Humanism and the man represents secularism.

Remark
The problem is where. Photosynthesis is not a location. It is a process plants use to provide food for themselves. I'm not a biologist, but this how I imagine the sentence could be corrected.
<em>Answer</em><em>: </em><em>Photosynthesis is the process by which plants transform the environmental elements of sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water into needed carbohydrates. This process is accomplished by the green pigment in the plant identified as the chemical chlorophyll. </em>

I think I've fixed the problem, but I've made the thought more complex by simplifying it, if that makes any sense. If someone else answers this, I'd likely take that answer. Anyway, what I've written does fix the problem.
Answer:
O Anaya structures his excerpt as an analysis, while Nye structures her excerpt as an observation.
Explanation:
In the first excerpt, Rudolfo Anaya presents a case of his friend who decided to 'remove' his heritage, his Latin background just to get accepted for a scholarship. And in this act, Anaya observes that his friend <em>"took out his native language, the poetic patois of our reality . . . took the soul out of his poetry." </em>This shows his analysis of what he saw and thinks is happening, giving his opinion.
On the other hand, Naomi Shihab Nye structures "Speaking Arabic" as an observation of what she saw. She describes the young man's declaration of wanting a heritage among the <em>"tall America trees"</em> while in a Texas fair in between the <em>"German Oom-pah Sausage Stand and the Mexican Gorditas booth".</em> The excerpt is an observation of what she saw at that time and place.
Thus, the <u>correct answer is that Anaya structures his excerpt as an analysis while Nye's is an observation.
