A cable weighing 0.6 pounds per foot is attached to a small 70-pound robot, and then the robot is lowered into a 50-foot deep we

ll to retrieve a 7 pound wrench. The robot gets out of the well (carrying the wrench) by climbing up the cable with one end of the cable still attached to the robot. How much work does the robot do in climbing to the top of the well?

Answer:

4600 ft.Ibs

Explanation:

Work done by the robot in climbing to the top of the well = work done in carrying the cable and itself + work done in carrying about average half the mass of the cable attached to the robot

Now work done = Force × distance = (( 70 +7 ) × 50 ft) + (( 0.6 × 50 ft) × 25 ) = 3850 + 750 = 4600 ft.Ibs

||||| A ball on a porch rolls 60 cm to the porch’s edge, drops 40 cm, continues rolling on the grass, and eventually stops 80 cm
3241004551 [841]

Answer:

d = 145.6 cm

Explanation:

first ball rolls on the porch by total distance

x_1 = 60 cm

Then again it will move on horizontal floor

x_2 = 80 cm

also in vertical direction it will drop down

y = 40 cm

so we have

x = 60 + 80

x = 140 cm

y = 40 cm

so magnitude of net displacement of the ball is given as

d = \sqrt{140^2 + 40^2}

d = 145.6 cm

What would happen to Mars (orbiting around the Sun, obviously) if its tangential velocity was reduced
Rama09 [41]

Answer:

It would eventually crash into the Sun

Explanation:

If the mars is orbiting around the sun, the gravitational force of attraction is between the sun and mars supply the necessary force required for the centripetal motion.

If a planet is in centripetal motion, it is constantly falling towards the sun with the acceleration equal to the gravitational strength at that point.

If the centripetal acceleration of the planet is removed, still the planet would accelerate linearly falling towards the sun.

Hence, if the planets tangential velocity was reduced to zero, It would eventually crash into the Sun
