A biologist created the following graph to show the relationship between the temperature of water (x), in degrees Celsius, and t

he number of insect larvae (y) in the water: graph of y equals minus 2 times the square of x plus 20 times x plus 400 What does the peak of the graph represent? The number of larvae is greatest at 450 degrees Celsius. The number of larvae is greatest at 5 degrees Celsius. The least number of larvae in the water is 450. The least number of larvae in the water is 5.

Answer : The number of larvae is greatest at 5 degrees Celsius.

Given the equation y= -2x^2 + 20x +400

x is the temperature of water in degrees Celsius, and y is the number of insect larvae in the water

Peak of the graph is the vertex

Now we find out the vertex from the given equation

To find x coordinate of vertex we use formula x= \frac{-b}{2a}

a= -2, b= 20

So x= \frac{-20}{2(-2)}

x = \frac{-20}{-4}

x = 5

Now we find out y

Plug in 5 in the place of x

y= -2(5)^2 + 20(5) +400

y= 450

Vertex is (5,450)

It means the number of larvae reaches the maximum of 450 at 5 degree Celsius

Hence , the number of larvae is greatest at 5 degrees Celsius.

What it is the answer to this problem
kirill115 [55]
This question actually states 2930 divided by 5
We use this method by first seeing how was fives go into the first number
In this case no 5's go into 2 so we put a 0 above the line and carry over the 2 to the 9.
Out number now says 29, 5 fives gointo 29with a remainder of 4.
We write the 5 above the line and carry the four across.
We now have 43, 8 fives gointo 43 with a remainder of 3.
We write the 8 above the line and carry the 3.
Our last number now says 30, 6 fives gointo 30 exactly so we can just write 6 above the line.
The numbers we have writen across the top now say 586 which is the answer to this problem.

Jake has finished pouring 4,865 cubic feet out of a total of 27,000 cubic feet of concrete. What percent of the job has he compl
anzhelika [568]
The total is the 100% and that is 27000, the question is what percentage is 4865
We can use a simple rule of three, direct proportion to solve:
27000 ft^3 --------> 100%
4865 ft^3 ---------> x
x =(4865)(100)/27000
x = 18.02
therefore 4865 ft^3 is 18.02% of 27000 ft^3
