Well, depending on your grade level I would say yes. If you’re in 9th or lower, school should definitely be mandatory because in those grade levels your still learning basic health, math, and other categories as well. Another example is, if school were to end and you’re still in 5th grade, not only would you not know much regarding any subject, you wouldn’t be able to provide basic needs for yourself nor for others. Another example on why school is fundamental is because if you wanted to become a neurosurgeon, lawyer, or a real estate agent, this all requires school. You cannot be a surgeon without med school, can’t be a lawyer with law school, and you can’t be a real estate agent without basic training. And if you weren’t even to pass high school, you wouldn’t be able to obtain a high school diploma, and without this you can’t get a basic job at even a fast food restaurant.
I believe the correct answer is: a leaf.
In the poem Possum Crossing written by Nikki Giovanni in 1943, the subject advocates the putting of the sign “Possum Crossing” enraged by her neighbors not paying attention to the animals on the street, which results in taking their lives. While driving through the mist, subject sees the light hopping and hits the breaks assuming that it is an animal, but it turns out the be just a leaf:
“I hit brakes for the flutter of the lights hoping it’s not a deer
or a skunk or a groundhog
[…]
I look . . .
relieved and exasperated ...
to discover I have just missed a big wet leaf
struggling . . . to lift itself into the wind
and live.”
