This will be detrimental on the production of protein. One amino acid can be coded by different codons but one codon cannot code for two different amino acid. The finished protein will not be the same every time, and since the amino acids have properties that determine protein structure and folding, then the function will not be congruent every time.

For instance, if a hypothetical codon AAT codes for both glutamic acid and valine then a normal person will have both normal red blood cells and sickle cells since sickle cell disease is caused by the substitution of valine instead of glutamic acid on the position 6 of the beta subunit of hemoglobin.

The components that make up the genetic code are common to all organisms. If a segment of a gene contains 27 nucleotides, none o
AVprozaik [17]

Answer:

9 amino acids

Explanation:

A segment of a gene that has 27 nucleotides will code for<u> 9 amino acids.</u>

<em>Each codon on the gene potentially represents an amino acid and a codon is made up of 3 nucleotides each. Hence, in order to find out the total number of amino acids that a gene segment with 27 nucleotides can code for, the number of nucleotides should be divided by 3.</em>

    number of amino acids = number of nucleotides/3

                     27/3 = 9 codons/amino acids

What is a dominant and recessive allele (and trait)<br><br> (please help!)
harina [27]

Answer: The principle of dominance states that some alleles are dominant and others are recessive. An organism with a dominant allele for a particular form of a trait will always exhibit that form of the trait. An organism with a recessive allele for a particular form of a trait will exhibit that form only when the dominant allele for the trait is not present.

Explanation:

  Dominant                 T     t

    TT Tt Tt             T   TT  Tt

 Recessive=           t   Tt   tt
