Answer:

The replacement of a base at a codon, as occurs when the GGA codon is changed to CGA, causes a change in the amino acid glycine to arginine.

Explanation:

Nitrogen base changes in a codon usually result from base changes in the DNA before transcription into messenger RNA, called point gene mutations.

In the case presented, the substitution of the guanine base by cytosine in the GGA codon —resulting in a CGA codon— generates a change in the coding amino acid, resulting in arginine instead of glycine.

The change of an amino acid in a peptide or protein can mean an alteration in the structure or function of these molecules.

Because an amino acid can be encoded by several codons, changes of a nitrogen base at a codon sometimes do not involve changes in the amino acid sequence of a protein.

Identify and describe layer B in the figure above.
AVprozaik [17]

The layer B above the surface of the earth can be identified as the mesosphere. It is a layer of earth’s atmosphere which is located above the stratosphere and below the thermosphere. The characteristic features of mesosphere are as follows-

1. In mesosphere, the temperature decreases as the altitude increases due to the decreasing absorption of the solar radiation.

2. Mesosphere extends from 50 to 85 km above our planet earth.

3. The top of the mesosphere is called the mesopause which is the coldest part of the earth’s atmosphere.

4. The noctilucent clouds or the night-shining clouds are located in the mesosphere.

Mariulka [41]

Answer:

The correct statements are:

  • If a flock’s beak type made it easier to pick up the available food, the flock grew.
  • If a flock’s beak type made it harder to pick up the available food, the flock shrunk

Explanation:

Natural Selection: one of the mechanism of <em>evolution, </em>natural selection is the process in which a population of any living organism can adapt and change according to the environment. Organism that are more adapted to their environment have the tendency to survive and pass on their gene to the next generation.

So. if  a certain trait of an organism is adapted according to the environment, its population will thrive and increase in size by reproducing. Here in this case, if a flock's beak type of generation 1 make it easier for them to pick up food, they will eventually survive and reproduce( their generation will grow). However, if their beak type make them harder to pick up food, their flock will not be able to survive hence wont reproduce and their number will decrease.
