How does carbon dioxide concentration affect photosynthesis rate?

Increasing the concentration of carbon dioxide increases the rate of photosynthesis, as there is a greater supply of it that can be used. Of course, you can only add so much carbon dioxide before the plant can’t perform photosynthesis at an any faster rate. Increased carbon dioxide concentration will increase the rate of photosynthesis until it is no longer the limiting factor in the reaction.

Answer:

An increase in the carbon dioxide concentration increases the rate at which carbon is incorporated into carbohydrate in the light-independent reaction - and so the rate of photosynthesis generally increases until limited by another factor.

Explanation:

CO2 concentration is directly proportional to rate of photosynthesis.

CO2 is raw material for process of photosynthesis.

CO2 + H2O → C6H12O6 + O2

Increase in CO2 concentration increases rate of photosynthesis.

Decrease in CO2 concentration decreases rate of photosynthesis.

Therefore, CO2 concentration is limiting factor for rate of photosynthesis.

A geologist who needed to correlate two rock formations in different areas could use a key bed for this work.
Agata [3.3K]

True

Explanation:

Besides using fossils, a geologist who needs to correlate two rock formation in different areas can use key beds for his work.

Key beds are very distinct layers that has a large geographical range.

  • Correlation is the process of matching rock sequences across different terrains.
  • This is usually done using index fossils and key beds.
  • Key beds are good indicators of homogeneity in an area.
