Answer:

In 1828, when Andrew Jackson was elected president, he promised to expand the United States westward. His justification for expansion seemed to him self-evident, for "What good man would prefer a country covered with forest and ranged by a few thousand savages to our extensive republic, studded with cities, towns and prosperous farms and filled with all the blessings of liberty, civilization and religion?" The idea of Manifest Destiny, which held that America had the right and even the duty to extend its civilization, fueled the westward move into Indian and Mexican territories. As the country expanded, the question of slavery gained new importance. Would the new territories be slave-holding or free?

11. Despite everything, Jeannette refuses to condemn her parents. Were you able, as a reader, to remain equally nonjudgmental? W
Sveta_85 [38]

Answer:

No, as a reader, I wasn't able to remain equally nonjudgmental as Jeanette.

Explanation:

I wasn't able to remain equally nonjudgmental as Jeanette because she was brought up in a family where she thinks that her parents had done much more for her than she deserves.

Jeanette refuses to condemn her parents because she is sentimentally connected to them so much. As a reader, I feel that her parents have failed to protect her from sexual predators as they thought that it was normal when in reality it was their duty to protect her from any potential threat.

Jeanette also feels that she should not confront her parents with her personal problems. However, it is rather the parents who have made it 'normal' for her to feel that some things are meant to just 'let it slip'. This is why I think her parents have failed in my perspective.
