Your job is to figure out how to make a "silver mile". Here in the United States we could do this with nickels, dimes, quarters,

half-dollars, or silver dollars. I found on the United States Mint website that the Susan B. Anthony silver dollar was 1.04 inches in diameter. Making a mile using just this coin would be an easy calculation. We need a more interesting challenge. We are going to create a silver mile following a specific set of rules. You may need to cover a little more than the required distance since you cannot use fractional parts of the coins. Here are the rules:
1) Lay down enough Susan B. Anthony silver dollars to cover half of the mile.

2) Cover one-third of the remaining distance with half-dollars.

3) Use quarters to cover one-fourth of the remaining distance.

4) With dimes, cover one-fifth of the remaining distance,

5) Fill in the remaining distance with nickels.

What is the total value of the coins in this mile?

Please support this by showing evidence. Thanks a lot :)

The total value of coins to create a silver mile following the specific rules stated is $38,114.18

<h3>Distance left:</h3>

63360 - 31650.48 = 31679.52 inches

A third of the distance is missing: 10559.84 inches

  • Diameter of the half-dollar: 1.205 in

This means 10,559.84 inches/ 1.205 in = 8763.35 rounded to 8764

Total distance coverd 8,764 x 1.205 in = 10560.61

Total distance left: 31679.52 - 10560.61 = 21118,91 / 4 = 5279.72

  • Diameter of quarters: 0.750 inches

This means 5279.72 / 0.750 =7039.62 rounded to 7040

7040 x 0.750 = 5280

Total distance left = 21118,91 -  5280 = 15,838.91 / 5 = 3167.782

  • Diameter of dimes: 0.705

This means 3167.82 / 0.705 = 4493.36 rounded to 4494

0.705 x 4494 = 3168.27

Total distance left = 15,838.91 - 3168.27 = 12670.64

  • Diameter of the nickel: 0.835

This means 12670.64/ 0.835 = 15174.41 rounded to 15175

<h3>How much money was used?</h3>

For this change the coins to dollars:

Susan B. Antony Silver dollars: 30462 = $30462

Half-dollars: 8764 = $4382

Quarters: 7040 = $1760

Dimes: 4494 = $561.75

Nickels: 15175 = $948.43

Total: $38114,18

A company that offers tubing trips down a river rents tubes for a person to use and "cooler" tubes to carry food and water. A gr
mestny [16]

Answer: the group rented 11 Person tubes and 4 cooler tubes

Step-by-step explanation:

There are two types of tubes, Person tube and cooler tube.

Let P represent number of Person tubes that the group rented.

Let C represent number of Cooler tubes that the group rented.

The group spends $270 to rent a total of 15 tubes and Person tube $20 Cooler tube $12.50. Two linear equations can be derived from the above information

P + C = 15 - - - - - - - 1

20P + 12.5C = 270 - - - -- - - 2

Substituting P = 15 - C into equation 2,

It becomes

20(15-C) + 12.5C = 270

300 - 20C + 12.5C = 270

- 20C + 12.5C = 270 -300

7.5C = - 30

C = 30/7.5 = 4

P = 15 - C

P = 15 - 4 = 11

What value of k will result in the quadratic having one rational solution if 4x2+kx+4=0?
PtichkaEL [24]

The value of 'k' in the quadratic Equation    4x^{2}+kx+4=0 having one rational solution is k is 8.

<h3>What is a Quadratic Equation?</h3>
  • Quadratic equations are the polynomial equations of degree 2 in one variable of the type f(x) = ax^{2} + bx + c = 0 where a, b, c, ∈ R and a ≠ 0.
  • The standard form of a quadratic equation is ax^{2} + bx + c = 0 .

Here, the given equation is  4x^{2}+kx+4=0

By comparing the given equation with the standard form of the quadratic equation we get,

a = 4

b = k

c = 4

The given quadratic is having one rational solution, which means b^{2} -4ac=0

Therefore,

k^{2} -4 \times 4\times4=0\\k^{2} -64=0\\k^{2} =64\\k=\sqrt{64} \\k=8

Therefore, the value of k is 8.
