Devon and his friends bought strawberry wafers for $3 per packet and chocolate wafers for $1 per packet at a carnival. They spen

t a total of $30 to buy a total of 22 packets of wafers of the two varieties.
Part A: Write a system of equations that can be solved to find the number of packets of strawberry wafers and the number of packets of chocolate wafers that Devon and his friends bought at the carnival. Define the variables used in the equations. (5 points)

Part B: How many packets of chocolate wafers and strawberry wafers did they buy? Explain how you got the answer and why you selected a particular method to get the answer. (5 points)

A.
s=number of strawberry wafers
c=number of chocolate wafers

3s+1c=30
s+c=22

B.
multiply 2nd equation by -1 to do elimination
add to the first equation

3s+1c=30
-s-c=-22 +
2s+0c=8

2s=8
divide by 2
s=4

sub back
s+c=22
4+c=22
c=18

I used elimiation because it seemed right for this one

I can also do subsitution

3s+1c=30
s+c=22
minus s both sides in 2nd equation

c=22-s
sub for c in other equation
3s+22-s=30
2s+22=30
minus 22 both sides
2s=8
divide by 2
s=4
and now
c=22-s
c=22-4
c=18

substiotion because it's easier for some people to see

18 chocolate
4 strawberry

IaI − IbI + IcI , if a=−8; b=−5; c=1

pLEEEEEEZE hELP
yawa3891 [41]

Answer:

4

Step-by-step explanation:

to solve | a | - | b | + | c | we need to plug in the given values

a = -8

b = -5

c = 1

the | | bars mean absolute value which is the exact value a number is away from 0 on a number line. an absolute value has to be positive, not a negative, as you cant be negative spaces away from something. plugging in the values into the equation we have:

| -8 | - | -5 | + | 1 |

the absolute value of -8 is 8, as -8 is 8 units away from 0 on a number line

like wise with -5, the absolute value of -5 is 5, as -5 is 5 units away from 0 on a number line

1 is the absolute value of 1 as its 1 unit away from 0 on a number line

the new expression looks like the following:

8 - 5 + 1

now we just add/subtract

8 -5 = 3

3 + 1 = 4

the solution to this expression is 4

12) -6n – 20 = -2n +4(1 – 3n)
What’s the first step
EastWind [94]

Answer:

n = 3

Step-by-step explanation:

-6n - 20 = -2n + 4 (1-3n)

First distribute the 4 (1-3n)

-6n - 20 = -2n + 4 - 12n

Combine like terms on the right side

-6n - 20 = -14n + 4

Get 'n' on one side by adding -6n to both sides

-20 = -8n + 4

Subtract 4 to both sides

-24 = -8n

Divide -8 to both sides

3 = n

Twice a number (n) is the same as 5 less than 3 times the number. What is the value of (n)?
irina [24]
2n = 3n - 5 (get all of n on one side by subtracting)
-1n = -5 (when you get here you have to divide by -1 to make n positive)
n = 5

Tracy bought a new sweatshirt. The shirt cost $25 but was on sale for 10% off how much does she have to pay for the sweatshirt
Fudgin [204]
Okay so because it's 10% off you're going to take the original price ($25) and move the decimal over once. So, $2.50. Now back to the original price!
$25.00 - $2.50 = $23.50 for the sweatshirt. I don't think I explained that very well, but that'd be how you found your answer?
