The advice to be given depends on which version of the war you could believe. Going with the views of General William Westmorland the American commander I would have advised President Johnson to continue with America's military commitment. With more than 33,000 American military personnel in Vietnam, the south was about to be defeated and Tet was mounted out of desperation. In other words, the US and her South Vietnamese allies were winning.
