Taking into account the definition of a system of linear equations and molar mass, the molar masses of elements A and B are 26.778 \frac{g}{mole} and 17.998\frac{g}{mole} respectively.

<h3>System of linear equations</h3>

A system of linear equations is a set of two or more equations of the first degree, in which two or more unknowns are related.

Solving a system of equations consists of finding the value of each unknown so that all the equations of the system are satisfied. That is to say, the values of the unknowns must be sought, with which when replacing, they must give the solution proposed in both equations.

<h3>Definition of molar mass</h3>

The molar mass of substance is a property defined as its mass per unit quantity of substance, in other words, molar mass is the amount of mass that a substance contains in one mole.

The molar mass of a compound (also called Mass or Molecular Weight) is the sum of the molar mass of the elements that form it (whose value is found in the periodic table) multiplied by the number of times they appear in the compound.

<h3 /><h3>Molar masses of elements A and B</h3>

Being the molar masses of the compounds:

  • A₃B: \frac{17.7 g}{0.18 moles} = 98.33 \frac{g}{mole}
  • AB₂: \frac{11.3 g}{0.18 moles} = 62.77 \frac{g}{mole}

and considering the definition of molar mass of a compound, the system of equations to be solved is

\left \{ {{3mA + mB=98.33\frac{g}{mole} } \atop {mA + 2mB=62.77\frac{g}{mole} }} \right.

where mA and mB are the molar masses of elements A and B respectively.

There are several methods to solve a system of equations, it is decided to solve it using the substitution method, which consists of clearing one of the two variables in one of the equations of the system and substituting its value in the other equation.

Isolating the variable mB from the first equation:

mB= 98.33 \frac{g}{mole} - 3mA

and substituting in the second equation, you get:

mA + 2× (98.33 \frac{g}{mole} - 3mA)=62.77\frac{g}{mole}

Solving:

mA + 2× 98.33 \frac{g}{mole} - 2×3mA=62.77\frac{g}{mole}

mA + 196.66 \frac{g}{mole} - 6mA=62.77\frac{g}{mole}

mA - 6mA=62.77\frac{g}{mole} - 196.66 \frac{g}{mole}

(-5)mA= - 133.89 \frac{g}{mole}

mA= (- 133.89 \frac{g}{mole} )÷ (-5)

<u><em>mA= 26.778 </em></u>\frac{g}{mole}

Remember that mB= 98.33 \frac{g}{mole} - 3mA, replacing the value of mA:

mB= 98.33 \frac{g}{mole} - 3×(26.778 \frac{g}{mole})

mB= 80.334 \frac{g}{mole}

<u><em>mB= 17.998 </em></u>\frac{g}{mole}

Finally, the molar masses of elements A and B are 26.778 \frac{g}{mole} and 17.998\frac{g}{mole} respectively.

What is a polar air mass?<br> What is a tropical air mass?
aalyn [17]

Answer: Polar air mass is the large mass of air formed over land or water in higher latitudes. They are characterized by cold air.

Tropical air mass is the large mass of air that is formed 25 degrees latitude of the equator. They are characterized by warm air.

Explanation:

Polar air mass is known for cold air near earth's surface. Polar air mass takes place in cold regions like Arctic region.

Unlike tropical air mass, polar air mass brings cold and dry air weather in winter season.

Continental polar mass takes place in cold, stable and low humid areas like subpolar land. Whereas, maritime polar air mass forms over oceans which are cool and located in polar region.

Tropical air mass is characterized by warm to hot air. But, as this air mass move away from their latitude of origin, they get cooled down. This phenomenon mostly result in precipitation and storms in Unites States. This also shows that tropical air mass contains moisture. They are usually prone to sudden changes.

Continental tropical air mass is produced over desert areas of the world during summer, when its hot. While, maritime tropical air mass is produced over tropical and subtropical oceans and seas in the world.

fenix001 [56]

Answer: The bond formed between the elements will be ionic bond.

Explanation: We are given two elements having electronic configurations:

Element 1: 1s^22s^1

Element 2: 1s^22s^22p^5

Element 1 can easily loose 1 electron to attain stable electronic configuration and Element 2 can accept 1 electron to attain stable electronic configuration.

For these elements, there will be a complete transfer of electron from Element 1 to Element 2. Hence, this will form a ionic bond.

From the configuration, Element 1 is Lithium and Element 2 is Fluoride. So, the compound is LiF.
