1.  Due to the longer urethra of males, bacteria have to travel farther to the bladder to cause an infection. In order to forcefully urinate, abdominal muscles are contracted. 2.  An thick layer of adipose tissue, called perirenal fat, surrounds and holds each kidney in place. Each kidney is enclosed in a tough, fibrous, connective tissue capsule that provides support for soft tissue inside.
