Answer:

Unfortunately, when deaf and hard of hearing people look for work, they may encounter employment discrimination. Prospective employers can discriminate, either openly or subtly. This discrimination happens because of either overt prejudice, or because of ignorance about deafness and hearing loss.

Answer:

In the 1970s, about half of all deaf children in America attended special schools, many of which immersed them in sign language. Today, 80 percent of deaf children attend ordinary local schools, and more than half of kids born with hearing impairments receive cochlear implants, with the proportion rising every year. A dramatic shift is under way in the American experience of deafness. To many who are hard of hearing, this shift represents not a victory over disability, but the dissolution of a thriving culture—what they call Deaf culture, with a capital

Answer: I think what will happen in the book is that Ponyboy will be deeply affected by Johnny's death and his last words. Ponyboy's last words were "stay gold." To Ponyboy that meant treasure your childhood and stay innocent as long as you can. I think "stay gold" is referring to a sunrise-to-sunset. That gold moment in the morning only happens for about 3 minutes. It goes by quickly.

Short story on helping old and disabled people
laiz [17]

Answer:

Sam’s Story – Living in a Community

Explanation:

Sam is an adult with autism. Sometimes, when I think about why Sam wants to stay in our small hometown, I know it’s about the reliable relationships he has in the community that allow him to have more of his own independence. Like, I know everyone at Dave’s Auto Shop, where he gets his car fixed, so I don’t feel like I have to backtrack to make sure nobody’s taking advantage of Sam as he takes care of his car. The restaurateurs in town know him and his food preferences, so he can go in and eat without me. He schedules his own checkups at the dentist and the doctor. The people at the credit union know him, too. Even for adults, it takes a village. And this village supports him so that we both have more independence.
