The attraction forces between mercury atoms in liquid mercury are stronger than the intermolecular forces between water molecules because it has a higher surface tension than does water.

What is surface tension?

Surface tension is the propoerty of the surface of liquids by which they will shrink into the minimum possible surface area.

Surface tension of the liquid mercury is greater than the surface tension of water means cohesive attraction force between the molecules of mercury is greater than water molecules.

Hence option (A) is correct.

What is the oxidation number of chromium in dichromate ion, cr2o72-?
castortr0y [4]
Oxidation number is charge of element in compound. Can be neutral, positive or negative.
Oxygen in dichromate has oxidation number -2, becauce there are seven oxygens, net oxidation number of oxygen is -14.
2·x(oxidation number of Cr) + 7· (-2) = -2 2x= +12
x= +6, oxidation number of one chromium is +6.

What volume of a 0.33-M C12H22O11 solution can be diluted to prepare 25 mL of a solution with a concentration of 0.025 M?
Vsevolod [243]

The dilution formula can be used to find the volume needed

c1v1 = c2v2

Where c1 is concentration and v1 is volume of the concentrated solution

And c2 is concentration and v2 is volume of the diluted solution to be prepared

c1 - 0.33 M

c2 - 0.025 M

v2 - 25 mL

Substituting these values in the equation

0.33 M x v1 = 0.025 M x 25 mL

v1 = 1.89 mL

Therefore 1.89 mL of the 0.33 M solution needs to be diluted up to 25 mL to make a 0.025 M solution

Why don't solids change shape?
borishaifa [10]

Answer: B) the forces in the solid hold the atoms tightly in place

Explanation:This is because there is no room for the atoms to move around much and because they are very close together which makes the phase a solid.
