The intersection point is only one. Then the equation of the line is tangent to the circle at point (1, -2).

What is a circle?

It is a locus of a point drawn an equidistant from the center. The distance from the center to the circumference is called the radius of the circle.

Prove algebraically that the straight line with equation x = 2y + 5 is a tangent to the circle with equation x² + y² = 5.

x = 2y + 5 ...1

x² + y² = 5 ...2

If the intersection of the point of the circle and line is one. Then the line is tangent to the circle.

Then from equations 1 and 2, we have

               (2y + 5)² + y² = 5

4y² + 25 + 20y + y² - 5 = 0

            5y² + 20y + 20 = 0

    5y² + 10y + 10y + 20 = 0

     5y (y + 2) + 10(y + 2) = 0

              (5y + 10)(y + 2) = 0

                                    y = -2, -2

Then the value of y is unique then the value of x will be unique.

The value of x will be

x = 2(-2) + 5

x = -4 + 5

x = 1

The intersection point is only one. Then the equation of the line is tangent to the circle at point (1, -2).

Chris is 11 5/6 years old. Marian is 1 1/3 years younger than Chris and Jane is 1 1/4 years younger than Marian. How old is Jane
jarptica [38.1K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

chris is 11 5/6 years old

marian is 1 1/3 years younger...

(11 - 1) = 10 : (5/6 - 1/3 = 5/6 - 2/6 = 3/6 = 1/2)...so marian is 10 1/2

jane is 1 1/4 years younger then marian...

10 1/2 - 1 1/4...

(10 - 1) = 9 : (1/2 - 1/4 = 2/4 - 1/4 = 1/4)....so Jane is 9 1/4 years <==

The record that represents an outlier in this data set is John's weight.

What is an outlier?

An outlier is a data point that differs significantly from other observations.

In other words, an outlier is a value or point that differs substantially from the rest of the data.

Therefore, the record that represents an outlier in this data set is John's weight. This is because it is on the

A cruise ship has a large, circular window. It has a diameter of 6 meters. What is the windows approximate circumstance
VikaD [51]

Answer:

  18.85 m

Step-by-step explanation:

The circumference of a circle is the product of pi and the diameter:

  C = πd = 3.1415(6 m) ≈ 18.85 m

The window has an approximate circumference of 18.85 meters.
