An icicle drips at a rate that can be represented by the function f(x) = −x2 11x − 18, where 0 ≤ x ≤ 10 and x is the number of h

ours after the sun has risen. when f(x) is a negative number, the icicle is not dripping. determine the values when the icicle starts and stops dripping. x = 2 and x = 9 x = −2 and x = 9 x = 2 and x = −9 x = −2 and x = −9

Quadratic functions are functions that have a leading degree of 2. The values when the icicle starts and stops dripping  is at x = 2 and 9

<h3>Application of intercepts of a function</h3>

Quadratic functions are functions that have a leading degree of 2.

Given the equation that represents the rate at which an icicle drips below:

f(x) = −x^2 + 11x − 18

If the icicle is not dripping at the point where f(x) is a negative number, hence point where the icicle starts and stops dripping is the point where f(x) =0

Substitute

−x^2 + 11x − 18 = 0

x^2 - 11x + 18 = 0

x^2 - 9x - 2x + 18 =0
x(x - 9)-2(x-9) = 0
x = 2 and 9

Hence the values when the icicle starts and stops dripping  is at x = 2 and 9

The equation of a line that is parallel to 3x=4y and has the same y-intercept as 2x-3y=6 is:

y = (3/4)*x - 2

<h3></h3><h3>How to get the equation of the line?</h3>

A general linear equation is written as:

y = a*x + b

Where b is the y-intercept and a is the slope.

Such that two lines are parallel if the lines have the same slope but different y-intercepts.

So, if we want to have a line parallel to:

3x = 4y

y = (3/4)*x

Then the slope must be 3/4.

And the line must have the same y-intercept than:

2x - 3y = 6.

We can rewrite that to get:

-3y = 6 - 2x

y = (6/-3) + (2/3)*x

y = (2/3)*x - 2

So this linear equation has a y-intercept equal to -2, then our linear equation is:

y = (3/4)*x - 2

An equation was used to predict possible sales of phones for 6 months. The actual sales of phones are also listed.Actual sales 5
Vikki [24]

Answer:

20

Step-by-step explanation:

To calculate the sum of the residuals, subtract the predicted sales from the actual sales in the table below.

Actual sales 55 150 325 510 780 990

Predicted sales 40 150 300 500 800 1,000

This will show the change between them. Add each residual to find the sum.

55 - 40 = 15

150 - 150 = 0

325 - 300 = 25

510 - 500 = 10

780 - 800 = -20

990 - 1000 = -10

These add up to be 15 + 25+ 10 +-20 +-10  = 20
