Because of the lack of labor force, the people that were not sent to fight, including lot of African Americans, found themselves in a nice position when it came to job opportunities. The empty spaces in the labor market had to be filled in order for the economy to run, so pretty much everyone managed to get a job with ease. This opened a lot of doors for the African Americans against which there was lot of discrimination until then, so they used the opportunity, managed to get nicer jobs and to prosper in life because of it.
