3)The original rational number was 17/12.

4)The age of Ruby and Reshma are 20 and 28 years respectively.

Explanation:

3)Let the numerator be x.

So denominator will be (x - 5)

If we add 5 to numberator then it will be (x + 5)

New number is (x + 5)/(x - 5)=11/6

Solve for X by cross multiplying

6(x + 5)=11(x - 5)

6x + 30=11x - 55

5x=85

x=17

So original rational number was 17/12.

4)The ages of Ruby and Reshma are in the ratio 5:7

So, let the present ages of Ruby and Reshma be 5x and 7x respectively.

Also, it is given that four years from now the ratio of their ages will be 3:4

So, the equation - 5x + 4 / 7x + 3 = 3/4

⇒4(5x+4)=3(7x+4)

⇒20x+16=21x+12

⇒21x−20x=16−12

⇒x=4

⇒5x=20 and 7x=28

The age of Ruby and Reshma are 20 and 28 years respectively.

What are the solutions to the quadratic equation below x^2+20x+100=7
aleksandrvk [35]

First you must have the quadratic equal to zero. In order to do this you must subtract 7 to both sides

x^2 + 20x + (100 - 7) = 7 - 7

x^2 + 20x + 93 = 0

Now you must find two numbers who's sum equals 20 and their multiplication equal 93

Are there any? NO!

This means that you have to use the formula:

\frac{-b±\sqrt{b^{2} - 4ac} }{2a}

In this case:

a = 1

b = 20

c = 93

\frac{-(20) plus/minus\sqrt{20^{2} - 4(1)(93)} }{2*1}

\frac{-20 plus/minus\sqrt{400 - 372} }{2}

\frac{-20 plus/minus\sqrt{28} }{2}

^^^We must simplify √28

√28 = 2√7

so...

\frac{-20 plus/minus 2\sqrt{7} }{2}

simplify further:

-10 plus/minus\sqrt{7

-10 + √7

or

-10 - √7

***plus/minus = ±

Hope this helped!

An unfair coin with Pr[H] = 0.2 is flipped. If the flip results in a head, a marble is selected at random from a urn containin
satela [25.4K]
Normally when dealing with coins the probability of getting heads or tails is 0.5 each. However in this case since its an unfair coin, the probability of getting heads is 0.2.
H - head
T - tails
R - red marble
pr (H) = 0.2
urn
6 red and 4 blue
pr (T)   = 0.8
urn
3 red and 5 blue

when heads is obtained
red - 6/10 -0.6
blue - 4/10 - 0.4
therefore when multiplying with 0.2 probability of getting heads
pr (R ∩ H) red - 0.6*0.2 = 0.12

when tails is obtained
red - 3/8 - 0.375
blue - 5/8 - 0.625
when multiplying with 0.8 probability of getting tails
pr (R ∩ T) red - 0.375 * 0.8 = 0.3

using bayes rule the answer can be found out,
the following equation is used;
pr (H | R) = pr (R ∩ H) / {pr (R ∩ H) + pr (R ∩ T)}
               = 0.12 / (0.12 + 0.3)
               = 0.12 / 0.42
               = 0.286
the final answer is 0.286

A farmer had twice as many chickens as ducks on his farm. After he sold 166 chickens and ducks, he had half as many chickens as
mamaluj [8]

Answer:

The farmer have at first <u>202</u> chickens.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

A farmer had twice as many chickens as ducks on his farm. After he sold 166 chickens and ducks, he had half as many chickens as ducks left.

Now, to find the chickens farmer have at first.

Let the chickens be x.

And, the ducks be y.

<em>As, the farmer had twice as many chickens as ducks on his farm.</em>

So, x=2y    ......(1)

<em>As, given the farmer after selling 166 chickens and ducks, he had half as many chickens as ducks left.</em>

According to question:

x-166=(y-29)\times \frac{1}{2}

x-166=\frac{y-29}{2}

Substituting the value of x from equation (1) we get:

2y-166=\frac{y-29}{2}

<em>By cross multiplying we get:</em>

4y-332=y-29

<em>Adding both sides 332 we get:</em>

4y=y+303

<em>Subtracting both sides by </em>y<em> we get:</em>

3y=303

<em>Dividing both sides by 3 we get:</em>

y=101.

Now, to get the number of chickens substituting the value of y in equation (1):

x=2y\\\\x=2\times 101\\\\x=202.

Therefore, the farmer have at first 202 chickens.

Which algebraic expression represents the phrase?
Andrews [41]
In order to answer this question you must know the meanings of each keyword. In short, here they are:

Sum is for addition
Quotient is for division
Difference is for subtraction
Product is for multiplication

So the "product" of 50 and the number of employees (n) is (50 x n) or B.
