The evolution of similar forms in different lineages when exposed to the same selective pressures is<u> convergent evolution. </u>

<u></u>

Convergent or divergent evolution are related to the involved groups, the environments, the selective pressures, and the way in which organisms deal with them to achieve a better adaptation increasing their fitness.

<h3>What is convergent evolution?</h3>

Convergent evolution is the emergence of phenotypical similarities in different groups independently from each other.

Convergent evolution occurs when two or more taxonomic groups share the same traits or characteristics even when they do not share a common ancestor.

Usually, this is a pattern observed in groups that are exposed to the same or similar environmental pressures. The development of these similar phenotypes is related to higher fitness and competitive ability.

The evolution of similar forms in different lineages when exposed to the same selective pressures is <u>convergent evolution. </u>

We know that oil floats on water and do not mix
<span>
What happens to the oil when you first pour it in? It flows into the water, but then seperates.

Why does this happen? oil is lighter than water and the molecules of the oil are attracted to the other oil molecules, not water, the water molecules the same

What kinds of animals would be most affected by an oil spill at the beginning? animals that live their lives near the surface of the ocean. Why? because now the water that was clear and free-flowing is now dark and sticky. oil also changes the way how some animals survive so make their ways less effective. one example are birds like pelicans

Use a spoon to stir the oil for 30 seconds.

Answer the following questions:
What natural action stirs the real ocean? ocean currents caused by wind and the earth's roation
What happened to the oil? went back to the top
Even if you can’t see it, is all the oil still in your ocean? yes
Which animals in the ocean become affected after wave and current action causes some of the oil to settle to the bottom, or be absorbed into the water?  bottom-feeders
Add a splash of dish detergent to the mixture and stir.

Answer the following questions:
What happened to the oil? it mixed with the water Is it all still in the ocean? yes
Sometimes cleanup efforts involve dumping a soap mixture over a spill area. Why is this done? to bond the oil to the detergent and the detergent to the water. so they can grab all the oil
What might be a negative effect of dumping the soap?</span> soap has chemicals that could upset the ballance of the ecosystem and kil some animals/plants

The half — life of nickel is 96 years. How much of a 30-gram sample is left after 270 years?
-Dominant- [34]

The amount of the 30 gram-sample that will remain after 270 years is 6.61 grams

<h3>How to determine the number of half-lives </h3>

We'll begin by obtaining the number of half lives that has elapsed. This can be obtained as follow:

  • Half-life (t½) = 96 years
  • Time (t) = 270 years
  • Number of half-lives (n) =?

n = t / t½

n = 270 / 99

n = 2.8125

<h3>How to determine the amount remaining </h3>
  • Original amount (N₀) = 30 grams
  • Number of half-lives (n) = 2.8125
  • Amount remaining (N) =?

The amount remaing can be obtained as follow:

N = N₀ / 2^n

N = 30 / 2^2.8125

N = 6.61 grams

What is the study of how the structure and function of genes interact with our environment to influence behavior called?.
Anettt [7]

Epigenetics is the study of how the structure and function of genes interact with our environment to influence behavior.

In addition to your surroundings and habits, such as what you eat and how much exercise you get, your genes play a significant part in determining your health. The field of epigenetics investigates how environmental factors and behavior may alter how your genes function. Gene-environment interactions that result in the expression of different phenotypes throughout development are the basis for the initial usage of the term "epigenetics." To turn on or off the genes that cause long-lasting alterations linked to the differentiation of various cell types, epigenetic processes are frequently used.

Epigenetics is the study of how DNA sequences are maintained as genes are controlled by cells. DNA alterations known as epigenetic changes control whether or not genes are activated.
