Answer:

 1. 288 cm²
 2. 61 ft²

Step-by-step explanation:

The dashed lines are included in the figure to help you see how it can be decomposed into shapes you know the area formulas for.

The relevant area formulas are ...

 rectangle: A = LW . . . . . product of length and width

 triangle: A = 1/2bh . . . . . half the product of base and height

__

1.

There are three rectangles here:

 left: A = (8 cm)(9 cm) = 72 cm²

 top: A = (12 cm)(9 cm) = 108 cm²

 lower right: A = (12 cm)(9 cm) = 108 cm²

The total area of these three rectangles is ...

 (72 +108 +108) cm² = 288 cm²

The area of Figure 1 is 288 cm².

__

2.

There is a rectangle here, along with a triangle.

 rectangle: A = (10 ft)(4 ft) = 40 ft²

 triangle: A = 1/2(6 ft)(3+4 ft) = 21 ft²

The total area of the parts of the figure is ...

 (40 +21) ft² = 61 ft²

The area of Figure 2 is 61 ft².

_____

Additional comment

Figure 1 can be decomposed other ways:

 • an overall 18×20 cm rectangle with a 9×8 cm rectangle removed from the upper left corner
 • a 9×20 rectangle at the bottom with a 9×12 rectangle at the top
 • a 9×8 rectangle at the left with an 18×12 rectangle at the right

Another way to decompose Figure 2 is as a trapezoid with a rectangle removed from the lower left. The trapezoid would have bases 10 and 10+6=16, and a height of 4+3=7. The removed rectangle is 10×3. (The computation we did is probably simpler.)

Suppose a shoe factory produces both low-grade and high-grade shoes. The factory produces at least twice as many low-grade as hi
umka2103 [35]

Answer:

The factory should produce 166 pairs of high-grade shoes and 364 pairs of low-grade shoes for maximum profit

Step-by-step explanation:

The given parameters for the shoe production are;

The number of low grade shoes the factory produces ≥ 2 × The number of high-grade shoes produced by the factory

The maximum number of shoes the factory can produce = 500 pairs of shoes

The number of high-grade shoes the dealer calls for daily ≥ 100 pairs

The profit made per pair of high-grade shoed = Birr 2.00

The profit made per of low-grade shoes = Birr 1.00

Let 'H', represent the number of high grade shoes the factory produces and let 'L' represent he number of low-grade shoes the factory produces, we have;

L ≥ 2·H...(1)

L + H ≤ 500...(2)

H ≥ 100...(3)

Total profit, P = 2·H + L

From inequalities (1) and (2), we have;

3·H ≤ 500

H ≤ 500/3 ≈ 166

The maximum number of high-grade shoes that can be produced, H ≤ 166

Therefore, for maximum profit, the factory should produce the maximum number of high-grade shoe pairs, H = 166 pairs

The number of pairs of low grade shoes the factory should produce, L = 500 - 166 = 334 pairs

The maximum profit, P = 2 × 166 + 1 × 364 = 696

Semmy [17]

Answer: 0.62

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A recent Harris Poll survey of 1010 U.S. adults selected at random showed that 627 consider the occupation of firefighter to have very great prestige.

i.e. The sample size of U.S. adults : n= 1010

The number of U.S. adults consider the occupation of firefighter to have very great prestige : x= 627

Now , the probability that a U.S adult selected at random thinks the occupation of firefighters has very great prestige will be :

\hat{p}=\dfrac{x}{n}\\\\=\dfrac{627}{1010}=0.620792079208\approx0.62 [ To the nearest hundredth]

Hence, the estimated probability that a U.S adult selected at random thinks the occupation of firefighters has very great prestige = 0.62

Solve for X, please show work!
Molodets [167]

Answer:

the solution set consists of {x < -2 ∪ x > 10/3}

Step-by-step explanation:

|3x - 2| > 8 is equivalent to the following set of inequalities:

1) 3x - 2 > 8

and

2) -(3x - 2) > 8

In case 1, above, add 2 to both sides, obtaining 3x > 10, or x > 10/3.

In case 2, above, carry out the indicated multiplication first:

-3x + 2 > 8. Next, subtract 2 from both sides: -3x > 6.

Next, divide both sides by -3, remembering to reverse the direction of the inequality sign: x < -2.

Thus, the solution set consists of {x < -2 ∪ x > 10/3}
