What were the chances that hunter kelly would have been born with krabbe disease?
Igoryamba

25% chance of Krabbe disease.

The chances weren't good. A newborn has a 25% chance of contracting the disease, a 50% chance of being a carrier, and a 25% chance of being unaffected when both parents have the Krabbe defect, as the Kellys have.

What is Krabbe disease ?

This disease known also as globoid cell leukodystrophy, Krabbe disease is a serious neurological illness. It belongs to a class of diseases called leukodystrophies that are brought on by the demyelination of the nerve system.

Causes ; Krabbe disease is brought on by an error in the GALC gene. Galactocerebroside beta-galactosidase, an ingredient (enzyme), is insufficiently produced in people with this gene deficiency (galactosylceramidase). To produce myelin, the body requires this enzyme.

Krabbe disease has no known treatment. Children who received umbilical cord blood stem cells from unrelated donors before the beginning of symptoms developed with little neurological impairment, according to the findings of a very small clinical trial of infantile Krabbe syndrome patients.
