How to solve your problem

x^{2}-21=100

Quadratic formula

Factor

1

Move terms to the left side

x^{2}-21=100

x^{2}-21-100=0

2

Subtract the numbers

x^{2}\textcolor{#C58AF9}{-21}\textcolor{#C58AF9}{-100}=0

x^{2}\textcolor{#C58AF9}{-121}=0

3

Use the quadratic formula

x=\frac{-\textcolor{#F28B82}{b}\pm \sqrt{\textcolor{#F28B82}{b}^{2}-4\textcolor{#C58AF9}{a}\textcolor{#8AB4F8}{c}}}{2\textcolor{#C58AF9}{a}}

Once in standard form, identify a, b, and c from the original equation and plug them into the quadratic formula.

x^{2}-121=0

a=\textcolor{#C58AF9}{1}

b=\textcolor{#F28B82}{0}

c=\textcolor{#8AB4F8}{-121}

x=\frac{-\textcolor{#F28B82}{0}\pm \sqrt{\textcolor{#F28B82}{0}^{2}-4\cdot \textcolor{#C58AF9}{1}(\textcolor{#8AB4F8}{-121})}}{2\cdot \textcolor{#C58AF9}{1}}

4

Simplify

Evaluate the exponent

Multiply the numbers

Add the numbers

Evaluate the square root

Add zero

Multiply the numbers

x=\frac{\pm 22}{2}

5

Separate the equations

To solve for the unknown variable, separate into two equations: one with a plus and the other with a minus.

x=\frac{22}{2}

x=\frac{-22}{2}

6

Solve

Rearrange and isolate the variable to find each solution

x=11

x=-11

Is (3, 2) a solution of -8x-2y&lt;6?<br> Choose 1 answer:
Allisa [31]

Answer:

Yes

Step-by-step explanation:

-8x-2y<6 (I prefer to convert this into standard form y=mx+b)

-8x+8x-2y<8x+6

-2y/-2>8x+6/-2

y > -4x -3

2 > -4(3) - 3

2 > -12 - 3

2 > -15 True or Yes

There are 52 weeks in a year, and you work 40 hours a week how much do you need to make an hour to make $60,000 a year?
sammy [17]
First you need to multiply 52 x 40 = 2080
then you need to divide 2080 from 60,000.
The answer will be 60000/2080 is approximately $28.85

Mr. I does a job in x hours while Mr. L can do it in y hours. How much of the job could they do together if they were to work fo
dimulka [17.4K]

Answer: Work done by both of them in k hours is

\frac{k(x+y)}{xy}

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Number of hours Mr. I does a job = x hours

Number of hours Mr. L does a job = y hours

Work done by Mr. I is given by

\frac{1}{x}

Work done by Mr. L is given by

\frac{1}{y}

Work done if they do together is given by

\frac{1}{x}+\frac{1}{y}\\\\=\frac{x+y}{xy}

Work done if they work together for k hours is given by

\frac{x+y}{xy}\times k\\\\=\frac{k(x+y)}{xy}

Hence, work done by both of them in k hours is

\frac{k(x+y)}{xy}

Not an expertise on infinite sums but the most straightforward explanation is that infinity isn't a number.

Let's see if there are anything we missed:

 ∞

 Σ  2^n=1+2+4+8+16+...

n=0

We multiply (2-1) on both sides:

       ∞

(2-1)  Σ  2^n=(2-1)1+2+4+8+16+...

      n=0

And we expand;

 ∞

 Σ  2^n=(2+4+8+16+32+...)-(1+2+4+8+16+...)

n=0

But now, imagine that the expression 1+2+4+8+16+... have the last term of 2^n, where n is infinity, then the expression of 2+4+8+16+32+... must have the last term of 2(2^n), then if we cancel out the term, we are still missing one more term to write:

 ∞

 Σ  2^n=-1+2(2^n)

n=0

If n is infinity, then 2^n must also be infinity. So technically, this goes back to infinity.

Although we set a finite term for both expressions, the further we list the terms, they will sooner or later approach infinity.

Yep, this shows how weird the infinity sign is.
