Teri went shopping with $300. Her Christmas shopping list is: 5 barbies for $10.50 each,, earbuds for $45, 3 sweaters for $22 ea
Romashka [77]

5 times 10.50 = $52.5

An additional $45

3 times 22 = $66

An other additional $65

The total price her shopping list costs is 229.5

Now, $300 - $229.5 = $70.5

Teri will have $70.50 left after buying these items.

The distance between the cities Chicago and Toronto is 540 miles. A motorcycle's speed is 48 mph. For a car, it takes 2.25 hours
serious [3.7K]

Answer:

5 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

given :

Distance between the cities = 540 miles

Speed of motorcycle =48 mph

TO CALCULATE THE TIME TAKEN BY MOTORCYCLE TO COVER THE TOTAL DISTANCE WE USE THE FORMULA :

\frac{DISTANCE}{SPEED}

By putting given values in the formula we get :

\frac{540}{48}

= 11.25 hours

Now, We are given that for a car to cover the same distance it takes 2.25 hours less than the time taken by motorcycle

⇒ 11.25 hours - 2.25 hours

⇒ 9 hours

Thus , Time taken by car to cover the same distance is 9 hours .

Now to calculate speed of car by using formula:

\frac{distance}{time}

\frac{540}{9}

= 60 mph

Let t be the time taken to meet if they start moving towards each other.

So distance covered by motorcycle in t hours is

speed\times time

= 48t miles

Distance covered by car in t hours is

speed\times time

= 60t miles

⇒ 60t + 48t =540

⇒ 108t = 540

⇒ t= 5 hours

Therefore, time taken to meet if they start moving towards each other is 5 hours.

Graph the function. Upload a handwritten copy of your graph as your final answer.
Serhud [2]
The function is divided in 2 parts:

For x<0, the function is y=x, which is a linear function, and its graph is a line.

For x≥0, the function is y=-x^2, which is a quadratic function, and its graph is a parabola.

Note that y=x is the line containing the points (0, 0), (1, 1), (5, 5) etc, that is, it is the line passing through the origin, with an inclination of 45° with the positive x-axis.

The parabola y=-x^2 is the parabola y=x^2 reflected with respect to the x-axis. It contains points like (0, 0), (-1, 1), (2, -4) etc...

The 2 graphs, with domain all real numbers, are shown in the first picture.

The second picture is the graph of the function described in our problem. We use the first picture, but restrict the domains.

That is, we delete the part of the line corresponding to x≥0, and the part of the parabola corresponding to x<0.
